If you knew Kim Kardashian, you could leverage her 8.1 million Twitter followers!

For about six months now, my friend Ross Iverson (@ BungaloAdvisor), has  me obsessed with the word “leverage”. How does little ol’ me, maximize my sales time, my personal time, my business time, to make enough money to do the things I want to be doing for the rest of my life – and maybe even relax? 🙂

Here’s Wikipedia’s fourth definition of leverage:  The ability to earn very high returns when operating at high capacity… Their variable-cost-reducing investments have dramatically increased their leverage.

So I have leverage down to 3 categories in order to “find” more time:

  1. Money
  2. People
  3. Technology

I don’t think there is another way to leverage your time in 2011. But if I missed something, please drop me a comment through this WordPress blog.

MONEY – This is the easiest category. Make lots of money and spend less than that and you will be able to grow and invest in stuff, people, and money to get you even further ahead.

PEOPLE – this is being redefined over the last 25 years as the world gets flatter ever second. But having the traditional employee is one way, a contract employee, consultant, or outsourcing help is another solution. Networking with friends is leveraging people. Knowing rich people who will invest in your business or introduce you to other people with “rich” networks of people, is leverage. All are effective and important.

TECHNOLOGY– I can’t talk enough about technology and how important it is to leverage you as a salesperson or entrepreneur. Every new job doesn’t necessarily need another person doing it. It can be done by Joe in India… or it can be done in less time via some kind of technology you aren’t using. Every day, learn about new software, websites, and technology.

If you’re like me, hang out with a few of those guys with pocket protectors – they have a lot to teach you. I’m never going to read the instruction manual, so I need to “leverage” these real friends to keep up with the light speed of technology, social media, and simply the newest version of Windows… a shout out to @rick_erickson @TyOlson and @immoshe for teaching me a few of those tricks over the past two years!

Make every day count~ Drew Schmitz
