Seize the Day!

21 Apr

Are you grabbing the opportunities that are right under your nose? Or waking up the next day and just doing the same thing?

If you didn’t know, I am a recruiter and I focus on sales hires. Not superman. Just a guy that can help a few star sales people every year find a job.

About a month ago, I was in a social situation (okay it was a bar on St. Patrick’s Day) and I met a guy through a friend who is in sales. He seemed like a good guy that you’d want in sales – extroverted, polite, smart, funny. An hour into the conversation, he made his confession (that I often hear): “You know Drew, I’m not particularly enamored with my current job…”

I passed him my card and sincerely asked him to drop me his resume. In fact, I had a client immediately in mind for him based on his background.

A month later, nothing. I am amazed at how often this happens. I’m a sales recruiter, he’s a salesman, I might have something for him, here’s my card and no follow up. Not even an email response ‘nice-meeting-you-I-have-to-put-my-resume-together-but-will-get-back-to- you-soon’.

This is step one of my screening process and more than not, people fail it. It’s really pretty simple: Follow up and send me your resume!

Are you grabbing the opportunities that are right under your nose? Or waking up the next day and just doing the same thing?

Make every day count~ Drew Schmitz

Like the blog! I can totally relate. Its hard to have sympathy or patience for those who are “talk” and no action.
